The 2013 ISPE Annual Meeting was a complete success! Over 1,600 attendees from around the world gathered in Washington, DC for this significant event.
In-depth educational sessions, training courses and networking events provided attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry experts and colleagues. Here's a recap of ISPE's biggest meeting of the year.

Nancy Berg, President and CEO ISPE
Nancy opened the plenary session by reviewing ISPE's advancements over the past year and discussing the Society's strategic direction for the future.
Janet Woodcock, Ph.D., FDA Director, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, USA
Dr. Woodcock discussed FDA's work with ISPE on a number of initiatives, including drug shortages and quality metrics. During her talk, Dr. Woodcock announced the redirection of CDER and the creation of the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality.
Julie Kim, General Manager of Biotherapuetics, Baxter Healthcare Corporation, USA
Ms. Kim explained the importance of the Baxter Covington Facility for the industry and patients.
Damian Greene, Global Network Strategy Lead, Zoetis, Belgium, Incoming Chair
Damian Greene talked about ISPE as a long-established leader in building knowledge, expertise and dialogue around industry topics that matter. He also discussed his vision for the next year of ISPE's development and growth.
Novartis was named the ISPE 2013 Facility of the Year Awards Overall Winner for their US Flu Cell Culture Facility, which introduced a ground-breaking new method for producing flu vaccines. During their acceptance speech, representatives from Novartis and the US Department of Health and Human Services discussed the public-private partnership that enabled the project, and how partnerships like these can be employed to spur innovation and protect public health.
The Global Regulatory Summit brought together over 30 distinguished regulators from FDA, ANMAT, MHRA and PIC/S, who spoke on the challenges of global regulations. This impressive line-up addressed questions from a highly attentive audience who expressed their current practices and problems facing their respective companies.
The Executive Series offered delegates high-level insights and discussion related to pharma's top industry-wide priorities. Panels and talks on quality metrics and ISPE research initiatives were standing-room-only, as attendees eagerly awaited the latest updates on these important topics.

Attendees chose from over 50 education sessions covering every aspect of the Product Lifecycle – the most sessions ever offered. At times, many found it difficult to decide which session to choose.
On Tuesday, during the Membership Luncheon, ISPE President and CEO Nancy Berg, incoming International Board of Directors Chair Damian Greene, and outgoing Chair Charlotte Enghave Fruergaard presented the Society's International Honor Awards. These awards recognize the individual Members, companies, committees and Affiliates and Chapters who make significant contributions that help ISPE achieve its mission.
Runners gathered at 5:30am in 32° weather along the National Historic Park C&O Canal towpath for a great cause. This event raised over $3,000 for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
For many Members, networking with industry leaders, regulators and peers is one of the key benefits of attending the ISPE Annual Meeting.
