ISPE Announces 2007 Membership Award Winners at Annual Meeting

(TAMPA, FLORIDA, USA, 15 NOVEMBER 2007) – ISPE, a global not-for-profit association of 25,000 pharmaceutical science and manufacturing professionals, announced its 2007 award winners and recognized their contributions to the pharmaceutical industry and the Society. Robert P. Best, ISPE’s President and CEO, presented the honors last week at the Society’s 2007 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The winners are:

Bruce R. Moon received the Richard B. Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award. This award honors an ISPE Member who made significant, long-term contributions to the Society. Named after one of the Society’s founders and most accomplished Presidents, recipients are considered to be Members of ISPE’s “Hall of Fame.”

David W. Selby, PhD received the Professional Achievement Award, which honors an ISPE Member has made a significant contribution not only to ISPE, but to the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.

Russ Somma, PhD won the Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year, which honors the ISPE Member who made the most significant contribution to the Society during the past year.

Pfizer was named Company of the Year and recognized for outstanding support provided by a company as reflected by significant active participation in the Society’s committees, councils, task teams, Communities of Practices, programs, and activities.

Singapore and Turkey are Affiliates of the Year, recognized for outstanding work as reflected by membership development and services, management, industry and Society support, and innovation.

Ronald Menendez and Darrell Tanner won the Roger F. Sherwood Article of the Year Award for their article titled, “Unified Manufacturing Control System Architecture for Pharmaceutical and Biotech Manufacturing,” published in the March/April issue of Pharmaceutical Engineering.

Student Poster Presentation Awards went to: Graduate Category: John Eisenbrey, Drexel University, Delaware Valley Chapter; Undergraduate Category: Katherine (Kate) Freed, Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey Chapter.

COP Council was named the Committee of the Year, for implementing an important new software system and increasing COP membership by 3,500 in three months.

Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico is the 2007 Student Chapter of the Year Award Winner.

Carolina-South Atlantic Chapter - North American/South American Affiliate Council Platinum Grand Award for Excellence and Innovation

San Diego Chapter - North American/South American Affiliate Council Platinum First Place Award for Excellence and Innovation

Greater Los Angeles Chapter – Award for Innovation in Communications

San Francisco/Bay Area Chapter - North American/South American Affiliate Council Award for Innovation in Membership Services

Boston Area Chapter - North American/South American Affiliate Council Award for Innovation in Events

Delaware Valley Chapter - North American/South American Affiliate Council Award for Innovation in Programs

Puerto Rico Chapter - North American/South American Affiliate Council Award for Innovation in Student Programs
