Axenic

Not contaminated by or associated with any other living organisms. Usually used in reference to pure cultures of microorganisms that are completely free of the presence of other organisms. Also used to denote “germ-free” animals born and raised in a sterile environment.

Axenic

A single organism in culture that is not contaminated by, or associated with, any foreign organism. Also used to denote “germ free” animals born and raised in sterile environment.
