Steve Poehlein has been Vice President of Global Technical Operations at Merck & Co., Inc., since 2005
and is responsible for the Technical Operations function at all of Merck Manufacturing's pharmaceutical
and chemical supply plants worldwide. He also oversees technical support for external suppliers to
Merck of APls, formulated and packaged products providing technical support to process development
and manufacturing.
For over 22 years, Steve has held a variety of management positions with Merck. Steve became
Director of Technical Operations at the Flint River plant and later at the Stonewall, VA, plant, directing
engineers and scientists on various projects, including development and start-up of new processes,
developmental research, environmental initiatives, factory automation and control, and factory support
and troUbleshooting. In 2000, Steve was appointed Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Technical
Operations responsible for the formation of a new organization to support manufacturing and packaging
of in-line final dosage forms globally.
Steve holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an M.S. in
Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from
Lehigh University.
