Fionnuala Walsh, Ph.D., became senior vice president of quality for Lilly in July 2007. Prior to that, she had been vice president for global quality operations since 2005. Walsh had been executive director of quality for Lilly Technology Center since 2001. Walsh reports directly to Dr. John Lechleiter, Chairman and CEO of Eli Lilly and Company, and is a member of the Manufacturing Policy Committee (MPC).Born in Ireland, she received her bachelor and doctorate degrees in chemistry from University College, Dublin. Walsh joined Lilly in 1988 at the affiliate in Kinsale, Ireland, following an industrial post doctorate fellowship in Puerto Rico. At the Kinsale site, she held roles in technical services (1988), leader of outsourcing projects (1990), new product introduction (1994) and leader of the analytical laboratory (1995). Walsh held management positions at the Kinsale site in quality, regulatory and manufacturing science and technology. In 2002, she transferred to the U.S. as global quality leader for API manufacturing. In 2003, she assumed responsibility as global quality leader-Lilly Technology Center. Walsh was a member of the Irish Council for Science, Technology and Innovation and the PhRMA API Committee.
