Mayo Pujols is currently Executive Director of Technical Operations at Merck’s West Point, PA facility where he leads a team responsible for end-to-end biologics and vaccine manufacturing, engineering, technology, and quality support. During his career he has been involved with the manufacture of both biotech and pharmaceutical products encompassing the areas of bulk and drug products, aseptic processing, contract manufacturing, bioprocess technology, validation, single use systems, regulatory inspections/submissions, and project management.
In his current role, he partners with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and the Lean/Sis Sigma teams to drive innovation in compliance, productivity, safety, and product quality. Mayo was previously Manufacturing Operations Director at Astra-Zeneca’s (MedImmune) R&D and commercial scale biopharmaceutical facilities and also held roles in Manufacturing Sciences and Technology, Quality Operations, and Learning and Development, supporting domestic and international sites.
While at AZ, he was part of the team that designed, started up, and licensed a new multi-product large scale biopharmaceutical facility that won the ISPE Facility of the Year Award for Project Execution. Mayo also served as a Technology Transfer and Validation Manager at Schering-Plough within the Global Technical Services organization. Mayo began his career at Merck in New Jersey where he served in a number of process development, site/global quality, and operations roles across a broad range of products and facilities. He holds degrees in Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and Columbia University. He has been an active ISPE member since 1999.
