Donna is an Associate Principal with over 26 years experience in project management and project design engineering for HVAC and controls within the academic, pharmaceutical and industrial markets. She is responsible for the management and design of projects from conception through completion including inter-disciplinary coordination of deliverables and construction administration. She excels in “making things work” with her understanding of controls and the commissioning and retro- commissioning of HVAC systems. Her experience and focus on HVAC controls prior to joining Vanderweil provides a unique perspective to each Vanderweil project. She directs the overall analysis and is involved with developing strategies for the MEP systems. She has day-to-day responsibility of overall project management, coordination and interface with the client and owner. Ms. DeFreitas is an active member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and a past Board member and President for the Delaware Valley Chapter. At the International level of ISPE, she has presented in a number of educational events on the topics of Laboratory Design and Biotech Facility Design. She is a past member of the North America Education Committee and a past chair of the North American / South American Affiliate Council. She was the Chapter Leader for the HVAC Controls section of ISPE's Baseline Guide for Quality Laboratories Facilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts as well as a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
