About ISPE

Who We Are

ISPE was founded in 1980 by a handful of people who believed the pharmaceutical industry needed an organization that would deal with practical applications of science and technology for technical professionals. Their aim was to improve efficiency and best practices. The much-needed forum provided by ISPE began with a Membership of engineers in North America. In time, ISPE Membership expanded beyond engineering to include a broad representation from pharmaceutical professionals, including a vital link with quality control and assurance personnel.

ISPE, which now has 22,000 Members in 90 countries worldwide, continues to work to keep industry professionals informed of the latest technological and regulatory trends that are occurring in the marketplace. ISPE is committed to the advancement of the educational and technical efficiency of its members through forums for the exchange of ideas and practical experience.

Who We Serve and What We Do

ISPE's Core Members are pharmaceutical professionals who use expert knowledge to create high-quality, cost-effective GMP solutions.

ISPE's core purpose is Knowledge Management -- seeking, defining and sharing best practices in manufacturing, quality and compliance throughout the product lifecycle to the benefit of members and all stakeholders.

ISPE's strategic plan focuses on Knowledge Management, Membership engagement, Regulatory affairs, Leadership and Brand influence, best practices. ISPE values member engagement which offers the opportunity to be the thought leaders of the pharmaceutical industry. When members come together and network with their peers it builds on that interaction when ideas are being presented.

ISPE is dedicated to creating first-to-market solutions that help our Members and their employers succeed in their work. This means helping them solve the challenges they face today and preparing for the ones that are expected in the future. In addition, our products and services exist to help the pharmaceutical manufacturing profession as a whole ensure the safety of the world’s supply of medicines. Further, we are committed to creating a forum for uniting the world’s pharmaceutical manufacturing community.

…and in doing so, we serve as the catalyst for solutions that influence global public health. Thus we foster expertise and a body of knowledge that is viewed by manufacturing professionals and regulators worldwide as the go-to resource for information. The organization as a whole serves as the forum industry influencers choose for testing and advancing new ideas.

Our Members
All scientific and technical areas of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry are represented among the ISPE Membership. Engineers, microbiologists, chemists, QA/QC, production, process development, pharmacists, regulatory and training personnel, academia, suppliers, and other professionals contribute their expertise to the industry through their participation in ISPE activities. Our Leaders
ISPE is led by a 12-member International Board of Directors . Charlotte Enghave Fruergaard, PhD, is the Society's chairman for 2012-2013.
