Each year during the Annual Membership Luncheon, ISPE pays tribute to exceptional efforts put forth by Volunteers through special recognition as determined by the International Honor Awards Committee. Those recognized include individual Volunteers, Affiliates and Chapters, Students, and the Company of the Year.
The Joseph X. Phillips Professional Achievement Award honors an ISPE Member who has made a significant contribution to the Industry. It is named in honor of Joe Phillips, longtime supporter of ISPE and a leader in establishing the Society as an “integrator” of industry and regulators.
The 2016 recipient is Michael L. Rutherford.
Mike has been involved with ISPE and GAMP® leadership since 2003 and currently serves as the Chair of the GAMP Global Steering Committee, the past Chair of the GAMP Americas Steering Committee, as well as the sponsor of numerous GAMP Special Interest Groups.
Mike has played a pivotal role in GAMP®’s work to push for improvements in the industry’s approach to data integrity. Because of Mike’s leadership he has touched hundreds of companies and countless professionals in his quest to put Data Integrity at the forefront of the conversation. The connection that he has facilitated between industry professionals and regulatory experts has significantly improved the industry’s understanding of the issues and the best approaches for mitigating data Integrity complications.

The Richard B. Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award honors an ISPE Member who has made significant, long-term contributions to the Society. It is named after one of the Society’s founders and most accomplished Presidents.
The 2016 recipient is Bruce S. Davis.
Bruce Davis is a long-time ISPE contributor and has been a critical part of the development and delivery of many ISPE products.
Bruce served in countless ISPE committees and continues his contributions in a variety of roles. Bruce served on the Board for 9 years and Board Chair from 2007-2008. He is a key training instructor for ISPE and has represented ISPE internationally to deliver several training courses.
Additionally, Bruce has been a significant contributor to the Guidance Document Committee and document development process and is particularly skilled at rallying a team into action. Overall, Bruce is a professional with high integrity and very kind and generous to all that he works with.

The Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year Award honors the ISPE Member who has made the most significant contribution to the Society during the past year. It is named in honor of a dynamic lady who contributed to the Society in many different ways and served as a source of inspiration during her battle with cancer.
The 2016 recipient is Maurice B. Parlane.
Maurice has been a long term, active advocate for ISPE. Maurice plays an active role in New Zealand, Australasia and the entire Asia-Pacific Region and has presented at a number of Affiliate Conferences in the region. He is passionate about education and worked with ISPE to deliver the 3-day ISPE Process Validation Training course to a group in Singapore. He is working diligently to make this training available elsewhere in the Asia Pacific Region.
Maurice brings endless energy and enthusiasm to all of his ISPE roles, sometimes waking up in the middle of the night to attend conference calls. He mentors new ISPE Affiliate leaders as they rise through the ranks and continues his passionate commitment to ISPE and the industry.

The Company of the Year Award recognizes the outstanding leadership and support provided by a company as reflected by significant active participation in the Society’s committees, CoPs, programs and activities as well as its support of employee participation in ISPE.
ISPE’s 2016 Company of the Year is Novo Nordisk.
Novo Nordisk has supported ISPE for many years and has increased their participation this year. In addition to members that renew and stay involved in ISPE, the company has greatly increased the number of new members this year.
Novo Nordisk members serve as key volunteers in many areas throughout the organization, including committee members, conference speakers, guidance document authors, and local Affiliate and Chapter Board members.
Flemming Dahl accepted the award on behalf of Novo Nordisk.
The Committee of the Year Award honors one of ISPE’s committees, councils, task teams, and CoP Steering Committees for outstanding work done in support of fellow ISPE Members and the industry.
The 2016 Committee of the Year is the GAMP® Global Steering Committee.
This year, the GAMP® Community of Practice is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, a significant milestone for this group. In 2016, GAMP continues to deliver programs and products to advance ISPE’s mission and support the needs of our membership and industry.
GAMP® is a truly global group with steering committees in Europe, North America, Brazil, and Japan. In 2016, numerous Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the global, regional, and local levels have developed numerous articles, concept papers, guides, conference sessions, and workshops. Many of the SIGs collaborate with other Communities of Practice within the Knowledge Network and work closely with ISPE Affiliates and Chapters. In 2016, GAMP has supported conferences and education sessions at Affiliates and Chapters throughout the globe.

The Affiliate and Chapter Excellence Award recognizes the outstanding work of the International Affiliates and Chapters as reflected by membership development and services, management, industry and society support, and innovation.
The ISPE Belgium Affiliate has completed outstanding work this year particularly in the areas of membership development and supporting young professionals.
The Affiliate hosts membership recruitment and retention activities throughout the year and has the highest retention and recruitment rates in Europe. Their outreach to young professionals is also strong and the Affiliate’s mission is to be an open community to discover and build young professionals’ future in the pharmaceutical industry.
Belgium Affiliate Chair Jef De Clerq accepted the award on behalf of the Affiliate.
The ISPE Turkey Affiliate has done a tremendous job in developing relationships with local regulatory agencies. The Affiliate also develops students through outreach programs, career days, and scholarships. The Affiliate supported the development of two pharmaceutical manufacturing curriculums at Istanbul University and Kadırga Vocational School. The Affiliate offers a variety of programs and workshops for its Members and many of the Turkey Affiliate members participate in International ISPE Conferences and Committees. In 2015, the Affiliate celebrated its 10th Anniversary and was featured on a broadcast of Bloomberg News.
Turkey Affiliate Chair Fatma Taman accepted the award on behalf of the Affiliate.
The International Student Poster Competition Awards honor the top undergraduate and graduate student poster among finalists who won competitions earlier in the year and as selected by judges at the Annual Meeting.
ISPE’s 2016 Undergraduate winner is Param Bhatter form the University of California – San Diego.
ISPE’s 2016 Graduate winner is Sara Sukenik from the University of California—Davis.
