If your organization is like most, it is always conscious of cross-contamination issues during the manufacture of products.  If you have wondered what the US FDA has to say about dealing with cross-contamination, then you won't want to miss this month's FREE Members-only webinar.

In this 60-minute presentation, FDA Consumer Safety Officer Edwin Melendez discusses the sources, concerns, and causes of cross-contamination and reviews different hazardous and non-hazardous compounds. The presentation also provides a regulatory perspective on compounds, including regulations, guidance, and policy, and provides a risk-based approach to the containment of hazardous compounds. If you're involved with minimizing the risk of cross contamination, you need to see this webinar.

ISPE’s Sustainable Facilities Community of Practice was formed after the Carbon Reduction Commitment in Europe was announced in 2007. This COP aims to respond, on behalf of the Pharmaceutical sector, to the global issue of environmental sustainability for facilities and infrastructures (e.g., demand for reduced carbon emissions and other green house gases, energy usage, and green building design/construction/ operation). In support of its mission, the Sustainable Facilities COP is leading ISPE’s partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (US EPA) ENERGY STAR Challenge to encourage ISPE Members and their companies to improve energy efficiency by taking the ENERGY STAR Challenge. Learn more about the Sustainable Facilities COP , their mission, and their involvement with the EPA and ENERGY STAR program.

ISPE’S Strategic Planning process is moving forward on schedule. On 4 June, ISPE volunteer leaders will be gathering in Washington, DC, to review the broad framework of the plan. The International Board of Directors is expected to take action on 6 June.

How can you learn more about what’s in the plan? Well, highlights will be posted on the Strategic Planning website shortly after the meeting and a conference call where you can ask questions will be held later in June. Watch this space for details!

Volunteering is an important benefit of your ISPE Membership. Volunteering for ISPE can advance your career path in several ways:

  • Volunteers are involved in industry-changing initiatives, such as widely-read ISPE Guidance documents, education initiatives, and dialogue with international regulatory officials.
  • Volunteers enhance their professional skills and reputation through working on ISPE initiatives.
  • Volunteers work with highly-respected peers in the pharmaceutical industry, building relationships that could potentially lead to professional opportunities.

Here's what Jane Brown, Co-Chair of the Membership Development Committee Volunteer Subcommittee and Past Chair of the 2006-2007 International Board of Directors, has to say about the value of volunteering:

“I’ve been an ISPE volunteer since joining the Society 18 years ago. Because of my involvement in ISPE, I have had access to an extensive body of knowledge and a network of technical experts, whom I now rely on to keep abreast of the external regulatory environment. Keeping up to date with emerging industry and regulatory trends, which is the primary focus of my current position at GSK, is much easier as a result of the professional relationships I have made as a volunteer.”
