Mission

ISPE supports and acknowledge the definition of Sustainability, or sustainable development by Gro Harlem Brundtland (Prime minister Minister of Norway (1981, 1986-1989, and 1990-1996) and director general of the World Health Organization(1998-2003):

“Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” “It is simple, really. Human health and the health of ecosystems are inseparable.”

Sustainability, or rather what are considered as sustainable solutions – have, to date, been accepted in practice where there are obvious commercial benefits when applied to existing systems. Many, if not most, pharmaceutical companies have accepted initiatives that provide potentially significant reductions in risk, such as, where considered viable, the introduction of green chemicals, reductions in air volumes and use of off-the-shelf photovoltaics.

The increased global focus on sustainability is driven by a number of factors. They range from climate changes, rising energy prices and scarce resources to increasing regulatory requirements and a demand for healthy and safe workplaces.

What may not be quite so apparent is that, once accepted as a principle, sustainability as a philosophy may provide overall gains industry wide with improved public perception and company and staff pride in being members of a responsive and responsible life sciences and health care industry.

We aim to

  • provide a professional group to communicate and spread knowledge (business cases, examples etc.) about sustainability and sustainable solutions to all relevant parties in the Scandinavian region. Members are welcomed from industry, academia, regulators and suppliers.
  • provide efficient time management for its membership, by specifically providing a platform for workshops, courses, symposiums, and speakers for members within Scandinavia.

Goal

  • To hold a least one ½ day seminar a year with relevant and inspiring speakers and participation from industries and stakeholders outside ISPE Nordic
  • To influence the planning of the annual meeting in ISPE Nordic and ISPE in general with the aim to get sustainability at the agenda in different ways
