The ISPE UK Affiliate is pleased to offer this specially designed 2 day residential course as part of the ISPE UK Education initiative.  The course will also feature a Water Systems Clinic where you can discuss your own industrial applications and problems.

Pharmaceutical Water is perhaps the most important of all pharmaceutical utilities.  It is used as an excipient in many pharmaceutical formulations, as a cleaning agent and as a separately packaged diluent.  In addition to non-compendial systems, pharmaceutical facilities include systems for delivering pharmacopoeial Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI) and Highly Purified Water (HPW).

Attend this 2 day course to

  • Differentiate regulatory requirements from myths relative to water distribution and storage systems
  • Identify alternative system designs and their advantages and disadvantages
  • Understand the importance of microbiological control and analyse the principles behind water systems testing and qualification
  • Understand the impact of water quality requirements (compendial and non-compendial) on water systems operations
  • Define the basic requirements for water distribution system component installation and overall system construction
  • Integrate and streamline commissioning and validation activities

  • Pharmaceutical professionals who are new to water treatment systems or those with significant engineering expertise from another industry who need to learn about pharmaceutical water treatment systems

About your trainer

Gordon Farquharson, BSc (Hons), C.Eng. is a Chartered Consulting Engineer with more than 30 years of experience in quality and safety critical processes and facilities used by industries such as healthcare, life science, micro-electronic etc.  He is Principle of Critical Systems Ltd. (UK) and Executive Consultant with PharmOut Pty. Ltd. international consultancy businesses.  Farquharson has been responsible for the development of technical solutions in discovery, research, product/process development and primary, device and dosage form manufacturing.  Standards and regulatory compliance in the sector are a significant interest and responsibility.  He is Chairman of UK BSI and CEN Technical Committees for clean room standards, Convenor of the ISO working group that is revising ISO 14644 parts 1 & 2.  He has recently represented ISPE and CEN working on the EMA’s revision of Annex 1 of the EU EGP.  He has also supported ISPE by writing WHO’s new Pharmaceutical Water GMP Guidance, and has been active in developing and revising ISPE Baseline Guides.  Farquharson is a past chair of the ISPE European Education Committee and current member, a founder member of the Sterile Products Processing COP, and was voted ISPE International Member of the Year in 2001, UK Affiliate Member of the Year 2008 and received the Richard B Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award in 2009.  He is a frequent speaker and trainer for ISPE worldwide.
