Tanya Scharton-Kersten is a leader in the Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Quality Control functions. She has over 20 years of experience in academic, government, and industry laboratory operations and auditing experience spanning the US, Europe, and Asia regions. Her focus in NVD has been to create integrated work environments that optimize facility organization through use of 6S (5S plus safety), improve laboratory communication through wide spread visual management, and foster operational effectiveness by use of structured tools for productivity. Over the last four years, she has brought together internal Operational Excellence leaders, laboratory analysts, and external Lean experts to build a sustainable education platform around laboratory right first time, schedule, and effectiveness. Photographic communication and information sharing has been a key success factor. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a PhD in Immunology from the University of Pennsylvania.
