Samuel H. Kitchell is Head of Engineering at Shire Pharmaceuticals. In this role, Kitchell oversees a global engineering organization to create and deploy strategy and vision for all engineering aspects including capital, asset management, and operations support.
Kitchell has held multiple roles with a rapid increase of responsibilities over the years:
- Vice President Engineering and Capital Management at Baxalta, 2014-2016
- Vice president Engineering for Baxter's BioScience business, 2012-2014
- Sr. Director of Engineering, Baxter’s BioScience business, 2011-2012
- Executive Director, Facilities & Engineering, Amgen, 2006-2011
Prior to his role at Amgen, Kitchell spent 17 years in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries in roles of increasing responsibility in manufacturing and engineering at Merck, Centeon (Aventis Behring), and Baxter.
In 2009 Kitchell was appointed to the Rhode Island Water Resources Board by the Governor of the State of Rhode Island and served on the board for three years.
Kitchell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Illinois.
